The north coast of Colombia is where Europeans first landed on the continent and is home to the oldest colonial towns in South America. And the gorgeous Spanish architecture of Cartagena has survived intact since its founding in the 16th century, largely because the citizens were always prepared to pay the ransom when the city was repeatedly under siege. The result is a stunningly beautiful town. But it's appeal is not in its history. Because when the sun sets, the music starts, the mojitos are handed out, and the streets turn into heaving dance floors, you realise that Cartagena is home to a conflux of two cultures that are determined to live life to its full. It's a mix of Spanish and African influences that give this place an energy like nowhere else. Like everyday is a party and we're celebrating life. It's infectious!
We explored the fort, saw monkeys and sloths in the park, caught the sunset on the city walls, had ceviche overlooking the old town square, feasted on street food in the vibrant Getsemaní neighbourhood, and had artisanal cocktails at one of Latin America's best bars. But the best part was just soaking in the vibe. Three nights was not enough!
Wow it looks amazing! The energy really comes through in your pics 😍
